A Pennsylvania man is believed to have killed his two young children before taking his own life in a suspected murder-suicide at a parking garage. Patrick Lynch, 42, was found dead alongside his eight-year-old son James and six-year-old daughter Caroline at the base of a parking garage in Mt. Lebanon, a suburb of Pittsburgh, on Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators are treating the deaths as a double murder-suicide, with police chief Jason Haberman stating that the incident was not being considered an accident. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office later confirmed that both children died from multiple blunt force injuries, ruling their deaths as homicides. Patrick Lynch's death was ruled a suicide due to blunt force injuries.

Hours after the tragedy, Patrick's wife, Anna DeMase Lynch, shared a now-deleted Facebook post describing her husband as a "wonderful dad" who had become depressed after losing his job as a data scientist. She noted that he had been laid off from the technology company Slice in August, where he specialized in machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Anna DeMase Lynch had reportedly convinced her husband to seek therapy, with his first appointment scheduled for the day after the incident. "One day too late," she wrote, according to The Daily Voice. She also posted tributes to her children, wishing James "[could] ski all the bowls" and Caroline "[could] eat all the skittles and play in your own castle made of slime."

Police responded to the scene shortly after 4:15 p.m. on November 3 after receiving a report of three unresponsive individuals. First responders attempted to save the family, but all three were pronounced dead at the scene. James was pronounced dead at 4:35 p.m., followed by his younger sister Caroline one minute later. Caroline was born with Williams syndrome, a rare genetic condition.

A makeshift memorial of flowers and stuffed animals grew at the scene as community members paid their respects. The family lived in a large home in the affluent suburb. A GoFundMe page established by a friend to cover funeral expenses had raised nearly $218,000 toward its $250,000 goal by Saturday morning. The page described Anna as a devoted mother and wife, and the fundraiser aimed to support her during this "unimaginable" loss.
