Knoebels Amusement Resort in Elysburg, Pennsylvania, has been recognized as America's top amusement park in Tripadvisor's 2026 Travelers' Choice Awards, surpassing well-known destinations like Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando. The century-old, family-owned park, celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2026, has maintained a free admission policy since its opening on July 4, 1926.
The rankings are based on traveler reviews submitted between February 1, 2025, and January 31, 2026. TravelPulse editor-in-chief Eric Bowman suggested that the park's value proposition likely played a significant role in its top placement.
"Number one and two may surprise people on this list, but I think cost is playing a major factor here," Bowman told Fox News Digital. "Knoebels Amusement Resort is free admission and a per ride cost."
Knoebels is distinguished as the largest free-admission amusement park in the country, allowing visitors to purchase tickets only for the rides they wish to experience rather than paying an upfront entry fee. The park offers a mix of classic wooden roller coasters, family rides, camping facilities, a swimming pool, golf, and picnic areas, making it a draw for multi-generational family vacations.
Bowman also highlighted the park's relaxed atmosphere. "Knoebels doesn’t get too busy," he said. "It also has a massive pool and large pavilions where many people often bring their own food."
Following Knoebels, Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, secured the second position. The park, co-owned by Dolly Parton, is noted for its blend of thrill rides, live entertainment, Appalachian culture, and Southern cuisine. Bowman indicated that Dollywood's comparatively affordable pricing compared to larger theme parks contributed to its high ranking.
Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Florida ranked third, continuing its status as a premier family destination. It is home to attractions such as Space Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, and the Haunted Mansion.
Disney's Hollywood Studios in Florida placed fourth, having benefited from recent expansions including Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge and Toy Story Land. Bowman attributed these additions to the park's improved standing among visitors.
Rounding out the top five was Universal Islands of Adventure in Orlando, Florida, known for its attractions based on franchises like Harry Potter and Marvel. Bowman also mentioned Universal's Volcano Bay Waterpark as deserving recognition, though it was not listed in the top five.
The remainder of the top 10 amusement parks included Epcot, LEGOLAND California, Universal Studios Florida, Disneyland Park, and Silver Dollar City.
