Magician Penn Jillette, known for his partnership with Teller, has shared insights into his frugal lifestyle, including his use of an electric Fiat 500 and how he sources its power.

Jillette, 71, who stands 6 feet 7 inches tall, recently purchased a used Fiat 500e for $22,000. He needed a car after giving his Mini Cooper to his son. He described the Fiat as a red, fuel-efficient electric car that is engineered for taller individuals. "I love it. It's perfect for driving to work and I insisted on an electric charger as part of my contract. I get to steal all my power from the Rio Casino," Jillette stated.

His upbringing, influenced by parents who lived through the Depression, instilled a strong sense of frugality. "My parents were very serious about money," he noted, adding that his father, a former jail guard and later a numismatist, was always frugal. This ethos carried into his own life and career with Teller. Unlike some peers who celebrated success with extravagant purchases, Jillette and Teller would opt for simple treats like coffee and doughnuts.

Jillette recalled a significant purchase made for his upright bass playing: a $50,000 bass used for the shark theme in the movie Jaws. The decision to buy it was made in consultation with Teller, as per their contractual agreement. "We do not scrimp on our tools. Buy it," Teller reportedly said.

His career, which began with street performing where he could earn substantial amounts, has seen periods of great success. He cited the early 2000s as a particularly strong time, with two successful television shows, extensive touring, a bestselling book, and movie roles.

While he manages his own finances, Jillette has also prioritized his family. He ensured his parents received round-the-clock home care when they became ill, even going so far as to tell his father the care was government-funded to alleviate his financial concerns.

Jillette is scheduled to tour the UK in September with a new show, "Piff And Pop's Magic Shoppe," alongside Piff The Magic Dragon.
