Pearson Manager Accused of Stealing $17.3 Million in Fraud Scheme
An Australian royalties manager for the education giant Pearson allegedly siphoned millions through fraudulent transactions over three years.
A former royalties manager for Pearson, the global education and assessment company, is accused of orchestrating a sophisticated fraud that cost the company more than $17.3 million. Paul Adlard, 58, faces charges of siphoning the substantial sum through a series of bogus transactions over a three-year period, from June 2021 to June 2024.
The alleged scheme went undetected for years before authorities brought charges against Adlard. He reportedly worked as the royalties manager for the Australian branch of Pearson, which is headquartered in London. The full extent of the alleged fraud and the methods used are still under investigation.
Adlard was supported in court by a female companion. His bail has been extended, and he is scheduled to appear in court at a later date to face the charges. The case highlights significant internal control failures at the multinational education firm.
