Pavel Dorofeyev Meets Preseason Expectations with Rangers

Pavel Dorofeyev has arrived with significant expectations for the New York Rangers, stemming from the draft picks exchanged for him and a substantial contract. However, the forward, comfortable playing on either wing, appears unfazed by the pressure as the team prepares for its season opener.

Dorofeyev demonstrated his offensive capabilities during the preseason, tallying a goal and three points in two games. He expressed a focused approach, stating, “It doesn’t matter if it’s big contract or small. I’m not gonna change my game, or I’m not gonna change myself. All I’ll do is just gonna work hard and enjoy the game and not try and focus on points and other stuff.”

In a recent exhibition game, Dorofeyev contributed two assists to a 6-1 Rangers victory. Earlier in the week, he showcased his shot release against the Islanders, playing a role in a goal and later contributing to a power-play marker. His ability to maintain possession and create scoring chances was evident throughout these matchups.

Dorofeyev's addition is particularly notable for the Rangers' power play, which was already a team strength. Last season, he recorded 20 power-play goals and 37 goals overall, adding to his 72 goals over the past two seasons. His offensive production is expected to bolster the team's man-advantage unit.

As the focus shifts to the regular season, Dorofeyev, who has been skating on a line with J.T. Miller and Oliver Bjorkstrand, aims for consistent performance. "Just trying to be consistent as much as I can and be good for the team," he said.

Meanwhile, the Rangers are finalizing their roster decisions. Final calls on player assignments were pending as of Saturday, with several players competing for the remaining defensive and forward spots. Goaltenders Joonas Korpisalo and Dylan Garand are also vying for the backup position behind Igor Shesterkin.

In other team news, defenseman William Trudeau was claimed off waivers by the Predators. Forwards Glenn Gawdin and Anton Blidh, along with defenseman Marc Del Gaizo, cleared waivers and were assigned to the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack.
