Paul Pierce Claims Financial Ruin After Fox Sports Dismissal

NBA legend Paul Pierce has disclosed that he is "drowning financially" following his dismissal from Fox Sports, according to court documents. Pierce is petitioning the court to terminate spousal support payments to his ex-wife, Princess Santiago, and to deny her request for $50,000 in legal fees.

Court documents reveal that Pierce claims he struggles to meet his monthly financial obligations, which include approximately $30,000 in child support and an additional $20,000 in spousal support to Santiago. His reported monthly expenses also encompass about $50,000 for general bills, including $5,000 for groceries, $7,000 for dining out, $1,000 for clothing, and $3,500 for entertainment, among other costs.

Pierce's last paycheck from Fox Sports was reportedly in August, and his average monthly income before his dismissal was around $120,000. He stated in the documents that he currently has $300,000 in available funds and possesses $3 million in property assets.

Pierce's legal team has informed the court that he would face "great difficulty" in paying the requested legal fees. However, Santiago has contested this, asserting that Pierce possesses sufficient financial resources.

In a prior filing, Santiago alleged that Pierce earned between $195 million and $203 million in NBA salary alone. She also noted his public statements about accumulating enough wealth from endorsements during his career to cover expenses and expenditures on family and partners without needing to use his NBA salary.

Pierce, 49, has been employed as an NBA analyst since retiring from professional basketball in 2017. He was previously let go by ESPN in 2021 after sharing a video on social media that showed him playing poker with women while consuming alcohol and marijuana. He later joined FS1 in 2024 as a contributor on "Undisputed with Skip Bayless" before that show was canceled, and then moved to another program, "Speak," which was also subsequently shut down.

Pierce's ex-wife initially filed for paternity papers in January, stating her desire for a DNA test to confirm his fatherhood of their son, King Rafael Santiago Pierce. She emphasized that her actions were aimed at accountability and ensuring what is right for their child, rather than seeking drama.
