Paul Pelosi, husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was seen at the couple's San Francisco residence on Tuesday morning, several days after an alleged hit-and-run incident in Napa Valley. The 86-year-old was observed entering a dark-colored sedan outside the $8.7 million Pacific Heights home.
Pelosi has not yet been charged with any crime related to the incident, which occurred in Yountville. Police reports indicate that a Napa County Sheriff's Office investigation recommended local prosecutors consider charging him with misdemeanor hit-and-run. The crash reportedly involved Pelosi's brown Maserati convertible and a Tesla.
Photos from the scene showed the Tesla with significant damage to its rear left side, with debris scattered on the ground. A spokesperson for Paul Pelosi stated on Saturday that he had apologized to the owner of the Tesla and pledged to take responsibility for the damage.
According to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a collision on Yount Street around 2:30 p.m. on Friday. A witness reported that a northbound vehicle struck a parked car on the shoulder, causing substantial damage and pushing the parked vehicle's right tire onto the curb. The witness also told dispatchers that the driver of the northbound vehicle briefly stopped before leaving the scene.
Deputies later located Pelosi's damaged brown convertible, which was partially blocking the roadway on Yountville Cross Road. Authorities stated the vehicle sustained significant damage to its front right side. Pelosi acknowledged to deputies that he had struck something but indicated he did not know what it was. He reportedly continued driving until his vehicle became inoperable.
Investigators determined that alcohol was not a factor in the collision. A preliminary alcohol screening test administered to Pelosi registered a blood alcohol content of 0.00. He was not taken into custody at the scene.
The Napa County District Attorney’s Office confirmed on Tuesday that no charging decision has been made. The office stated it has received partial documents for review and is awaiting a key report from the Napa County Sheriff’s Office before making a filing decision. A spokesperson indicated that a timeframe for a decision might be available later this week.
