Paul Pelosi, 86, the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., is facing a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge following a crash in Napa County, California. The incident occurred Friday afternoon in Yountville, according to the Napa County Sheriff's Office.
A witness reported observing a brown convertible strike an unoccupied parked vehicle and then continue driving. Deputies later located the damaged convertible partially obstructing a roadway and identified the driver as Paul Pelosi.
During the investigation, Pelosi indicated he had hit something but was unsure of the nature of the impact, the sheriff's office stated. His vehicle became disabled after he continued driving.
Authorities confirmed that alcohol was not a factor in the collision. Preliminary testing showed no alcohol presence, and DUI was ruled out by investigators.
Pelosi was not arrested at the scene, which the sheriff's office described as common for this type of misdemeanor offense. The case will be referred to the Napa County District Attorney's Office for review and potential prosecution. The sheriff's office also plans to submit a driver re-evaluation referral to the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
This incident follows a May 2022 crash in Napa County for which Pelosi pleaded guilty to misdemeanor drunken driving causing injury. He received a sentence that included probation, jail time, a DUI education program, and the installation of an ignition interlock device.
Pelosi has also been in the public eye since an October 2022 home invasion where he was attacked with a hammer. The assailant, David DePape, was sentenced in October 2024 to life in prison on state charges, in addition to a 30-year federal sentence.
