Paul Pelosi, the 86-year-old husband of Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, has been charged with a misdemeanor hit-and-run in connection with a collision that occurred on July 3. The Napa County District Attorney's Office formally filed the charges on Friday.

Pelosi is accused of crashing into an unoccupied parked car on the shoulder of a roadway in Yountville, California, shortly after 2:30 p.m. The criminal complaint alleges that Pelosi damaged a parked Tesla and then left the scene without attempting to contact the vehicle's owner or provide any information. Authorities identified the vehicle involved as Pelosi's brown convertible, which sustained severe damage to its front right side. The parked Tesla reportedly required significant repairs to its rear.

According to police, Pelosi continued to drive after the initial impact until his vehicle became disabled and stopped, blocking an intersection. He was found by deputies approximately half a mile from where the crash occurred. In an interview with law enforcement, Pelosi stated he knew he had hit something but was unsure what, and he intended to return to the scene.

A spokesperson for the Pelosi family told the Daily Mail that Paul Pelosi has personally apologized to the owner of the damaged vehicle and assured them he would take responsibility for the repairs. Nancy Pelosi will not be commenting on the matter, the spokesperson added.

Pelosi is scheduled to appear in court in Napa County on August 14. His driver's license will also be referred to the Department of Motor Vehicles for re-evaluation, a common procedure for drivers of his age.

This incident marks a second encounter with law enforcement in Yountville for Paul Pelosi, who was arrested for a driving under the influence (DUI) offense in 2022. In that case, he pleaded guilty and received three years of probation.
