Paul Gascoigne's Daughter-in-Law Shifts Treatment Plan After Failing to Reach Fundraising Goal
Jaimee Sharp, diagnosed with an incurable brain tumor, will now pursue a different therapy alongside chemotherapy after her GoFundMe fell short of its £320,000 target.
Jaimee Sharp, 28, the daughter-in-law of former footballer Paul Gascoigne, has announced she will not proceed with a specialized treatment in Ohio after her fundraising efforts did not meet the £320,000 target. Sharp was seeking funds for the TarGet-D clinic trial in the United States in the hope of extending her time with her five-year-old son, Teddy.
Despite raising £254,519, Sharp stated on her GoFundMe page that it would not be responsible to commit to the two-year treatment program in America without the full amount. She expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and donations received, acknowledging that the funds have provided access to treatment options she could not otherwise afford.
Sharp has since identified an alternative treatment path. She will now undergo private hyperthermia treatment with Dr. Paul Mulholland, in conjunction with her ongoing chemotherapy and other recommended medications. Hyperthermia has demonstrated promising results in improving survival rates for aggressive, high-grade brain tumors, offering Sharp another opportunity to gain more time with her son.
"The amount of love and support you have all shown me, Teddy and my family has been completely overwhelming," Sharp wrote in an update. "I honestly don't think I will ever be able to put into words what it means to know that so many people have stood beside me during the hardest time of my life."
She reassured donors that all funds raised will be utilized for her cancer treatment and associated care costs. Sharp explained that her condition is an incurable cancer, and further treatment is likely to be necessary in the future. Having these funds available, she stated, would allow her to act quickly if her cancer progresses or recurs, or if another promising treatment emerges, without the immediate need to fundraise again under urgent circumstances.
"The treatment route may have changed, but the reason behind this fundraiser has not. Every donation remains dedicated to helping me access treatment for my cancer, both now and in the future, and to giving me the best possible chance of having more time with my little boy," she added.
Jaimee Sharp is the partner of Mason Gascoigne, Paul Gascoigne's adopted son. Mason's mother is Sheryl Gascoigne, Paul's ex-wife. Their son Teddy was born in March 2021, making Paul Gascoigne a grandfather. Paul's adopted daughter, Bianca Gascoigne, also has a child, Blake Sunshine, born in February 2023.
Sharp had previously undergone major brain surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible. She recently shared a video on her GoFundMe page featuring a scan and a scar from her surgery. Those wishing to contribute to her ongoing treatment costs can visit her GoFundMe page.
