Patsy Kensit has shared details of how Noel Gallagher confronted her about abandoning her career during her marriage to his brother, Liam Gallagher. Kensit, 58, described how the relationship with the Oasis frontman became so consuming that she felt she had "lost part of who I was."
Speaking on Davina McCall's Begin Again podcast, Kensit recounted how Noel Gallagher, Liam's older brother, took her aside and questioned her career hiatus. "I remember him taking me to one side and saying, 'Why aren't you working? Why aren't you...' because I was always off doing films and going to the States and stuff," Kensit said.
Kensit explained her reasoning at the time: "Because I'm too afraid to leave him on his own."
She had become one of the most famous celebrity couples of the 1990s when she began dating Liam Gallagher. The pair married in 1997 and divorced in 2000, sharing a son, Lennon, now 26. Kensit, who had acted since childhood and starred in films like Lethal Weapon 2, admitted that the intensity of the relationship led her to step back from her professional commitments.
"I think what I forgot in that time was how much I'd done before it. That relationship became so big. It was bigger than me and therefore the pressure was huge," Kensit stated. She referred to the couple's iconic 1997 Vanity Fair cover shoot, which became a defining image of the Britpop era.
Kensit said that Noel Gallagher encouraged her to pursue her own career. Despite the relationship's difficulties, she expressed no regret, noting that it brought her son Lennon into her life. She is now preparing to return to the television series Emmerdale after a 20-year absence.
