The New England Patriots have traded offensive lineman Caedan Wallace to the Miami Dolphins in a surprising inter-division move, the teams announced Monday.
Wallace, along with a 2029 seventh-round pick, was sent to Miami in exchange for a 2028 sixth-round selection. This deal comes after reports circulated that the Patriots intended to release the 26-year-old lineman.
By trading Wallace, the Patriots were able to improve their draft position in 2028 rather than lose the player for nothing. The Dolphins, who hold the No. 13 waiver order, reportedly did not want to risk another team claiming Wallace if he were released.
Wallace was a third-round draft pick who recorded 40 career starts at Penn State, primarily playing tackle. However, he was listed as a guard by the Patriots prior to the trade. The Dolphins are looking to add depth to their offensive line, with Wallace expected to serve as a backup guard.
Wallace has played in 10 career NFL games, including two starts and six games during his rookie season in 2024.
