Patriots Score Unconventional Buzzer-Beater Touchdown at Halftime

Down by two scores with only one second remaining in the first half of Thursday night's game against the Chicago Bears, the New England Patriots executed an improbable 48-yard catch-and-run touchdown. Quarterback Drake Maye completed a short pass to running back Rhamondre Stevenson, who then outran defenders into the end zone.

The play, which occurred with just one second left on the clock at Soldier Field, saw Stevenson receive the ball a few yards downfield. With blockers ahead, he cut towards the middle of the field and scored untouched. The touchdown, followed by a successful extra point, narrowed the deficit to six points heading into halftime.

Al Michaels, the play-by-play announcer for Prime Video, expressed astonishment at the turn of events, exclaiming, "Look at him go! Can you believe this? Touchdown!"

Stevenson, who entered the game with two rushing touchdowns on the season, recorded his first regular-season receiving touchdown since Week 18 of the previous season. He also had a receiving touchdown in Super Bowl LVIII against the Seahawks. In the first half against the Bears, Stevenson amassed 80 receiving yards on four catches, marking his highest total in the first half of a game this season.

The Patriots, who began the year with a 1-2 record, entered Thursday's contest having won three consecutive games, including a victory over the rival New York Jets the previous Sunday. New England Patriots' Rhamondre Stevenson (38) and Efton Chism III (86) celebrate after Stevenson scored a touchdown.
