Patrick Mahomes Sr. has filed a motion with a Texas court seeking permission to travel out of state to attend seven of his son, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes', games this season. The request comes as Mahomes Sr. is currently on probation following a driving while intoxicated (DWI) guilty plea.
The motion was filed Friday in the 7th District Court in Tyler, Texas. Mahomes Sr. is requesting authorization to travel to Kansas City, Missouri; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Cincinnati, Ohio, for the games. According to the motion, he must agree to urinalysis testing before and after his travels and notify his supervising officer each time he departs the state.
Mahomes Sr. pleaded guilty to DWI in 2024 and received a five-year probation sentence. In February 2026, he was arrested for allegedly violating the terms of his probation by consuming alcohol, which resulted in an extension of his probation by two years. His motion states he has completed 16 weeks of outpatient treatment and 160 hours of community service. He is currently monitored by an ankle bracelet and has complied with all other existing probation conditions, which a Smith County community supervision officer can verify.
The Chiefs are scheduled to begin their season against the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football in Week 1. While Patrick Mahomes' participation is not yet confirmed, he has been practicing with the team after undergoing surgery in December to repair torn ligaments in his knee. He did not participate in any preseason games.
