Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes Jr., has filed a legal motion seeking approval to attend seven of his son's NFL games this season. The request was submitted to the 7th District Court in Tyler, Texas, this week.
The former MLB pitcher is currently under probation stemming from a 2024 DWI arrest, his third such charge. This probation was extended to five years following violations, including consuming alcohol, which also resulted in a 16-week treatment program and jail time.
As a condition of his probation, Mahomes Sr. is restricted from traveling out of state. The motion specifically requests permission to travel to Kansas City, Missouri; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Cincinnati, Ohio, for his son's games. The court filing notes that Mahomes Sr. is aware of and willing to comply with requirements for urinalysis testing before and after travel.
According to the filing, Mahomes Sr. has completed 160 hours of community service and finished an outpatient treatment program. A community supervision officer has verified his compliance with probation conditions, and he is monitored by an ankle device.
Earlier this year, Mahomes Sr. petitioned the court to remove the ankle monitor due to skin irritation, an issue his attorney stated persisted even after the device was moved to the other ankle. His attorney also pursued the voluntary submission of hair-follicle and blood tests, both of which he passed.
Mahomes Sr.'s legal troubles have previously coincided with significant events for his son. He was arrested for DWI again in February 2024, just before his son's fourth Super Bowl appearance. After spending 10 days in jail, he accepted a plea deal with intense supervision for the first year. Footage from that arrest showed Mahomes Sr. expressing concern that his legal issues would impact his son's Super Bowl participation. Patrick Mahomes II has spoken about his father's struggles, noting that the DWI arrest during Super Bowl week served as a wake-up call for his father.
