Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes Jr., has requested a judge allow him to remove his ankle monitor, citing significant skin irritation on his lower leg. The former MLB pitcher, 55, was arrested for driving while intoxicated in February 2024 and subsequently agreed to a plea deal that included five years of probation and one year of intensive supervision.
As part of his probation, Mahomes Sr. was fitted with an alcohol-monitoring device on his ankle. He later violated his parole by consuming alcohol, which led to an extension of his probation by two years, a 16-week treatment program, and 30 days in jail, with credit for time served.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Mahomes Sr.'s attorney is advocating for the removal of the ankle monitor, stating that it has caused swelling and discoloration of his client's leg. The attorney also noted that attempts to treat the skin irritation with cream were unsuccessful. The probation officer overseeing Mahomes Sr. has reportedly witnessed the swelling of his ankle and previously approved relocating the monitor to the other leg, though the issue persisted.
A doctor's note was also included in the motion seeking the monitor's removal, according to TMZ. Mahomes Sr. passed a voluntary hair-follicle test and a blood test requested by his parole officer.
Mahomes Sr. pitched in MLB for 11 seasons, primarily as a reliever, and holds a 5.34 career ERA. His son, Patrick Mahomes II, also pursued baseball in high school and is a minority owner of the Kansas City Royals. LaTroy Hawkins, a former teammate of Mahomes Sr., is the godfather to the NFL quarterback.
