Patrick Labyorteaux's Shocking 'Dexter' Role Surfaces Years Later

Fans of the beloved 1970s television series 'Little House on the Prairie' have expressed surprise and shock upon learning of a graphic on-screen death experienced by one of its former child stars, Patrick Labyorteaux. While Labyorteaux, now 61, is widely remembered for his wholesome portrayal of Andrew Garvey on the NBC show from 1977 to 1981, he later appeared in a starkly different and violent role in the 2009 season of Showtime's 'Dexter'.

In the 'Dexter' episode titled "Dirty Harry," Labyorteaux's character, Earl Doorman, a sandwich shop manager, becomes a victim of the serial killer known as the Trinity Killer, portrayed by John Lithgow. The scene depicts Trinity, disguised as a potential renter, brutally murdering Doorman with a hammer. Horrified Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) witnesses the act from a security room but is unable to intervene in time. The graphic nature of the scene, including Doorman's pleas and the assailant's violent response, has reportedly stunned fans who primarily associate Labyorteaux with his family-friendly past.

Earl Doorman is introduced early in the episode, interacting with both Trinity and a security guard. While the guard is initially speculated as Trinity's next victim, Doorman is ultimately targeted. During the attack, Doorman cries out, "Please stop! I'm a father!" to which Trinity responds, "You were no father. You made me... you made me do this!" before proceeding to bludgeon him to death.

Labyorteaux also made a second appearance in the same season as a decomposing corpse discovered by Miami Metro as they investigated Doorman's murder. Despite the prominent nature of the role, Labyorteaux's performance in these 'Dexter' episodes is uncredited and not listed among the guest stars.

Patrick Labyorteaux's younger brother, Matthew Labyorteaux, also starred in 'Little House on the Prairie,' playing the adopted son Albert Quinn Ingalls. Matthew's storylines often delved into more dramatic territory, including a notable arc about addiction, which was considered groundbreaking for its time. He has spoken fondly of his time on the show, describing the cast as a family and crediting the experience with shaping him.

Both actors have remained connected to their work. Matthew continues to act, write screenplays, and has opened an online acting school called Working Actors School. The recent resurgence of interest in both 'Dexter' and 'Little House on the Prairie' due to their respective reboots has brought renewed attention to the Labyorteaux brothers and their varied career paths.
