Patrick Clancy's lawyers are presenting arguments in a Massachusetts courtroom on Wednesday for a hearing in his wrongful death lawsuit against his ex-wife's doctors. The suit alleges that Lindsay Clancy's medical providers overmedicated her while treating her for postpartum mental health issues, ultimately leading to the deaths of their three young children.
This legal proceeding occurs just over a month after a mistrial was declared in Lindsay Clancy's murder trial for the January 2023 killings of their children: five-year-old Cora, three-year-old Dawson, and eight-month-old Callan.
The wrongful death lawsuit names several medical providers who testified during Lindsay Clancy's murder trial, including Dr. Jennifer Tufts and nurse Rebecca Jollotta. The suit contends that their alleged failure to properly treat Lindsay Clancy "resulted in tragedy, namely, allegations that Lindsay took the lives of her children."
"If Defendants had not acted negligently, and rather had provided adequate care, it is more likely than not that Patrick and Lindsay's children would still be alive today," the lawsuit states.
Tufts, Jollotta, and the other medical providers named in the suit, South Shore Health System and Aster Mental Health, have denied the allegations and filed motions to dismiss the case. A judge is set to hear arguments on these motions at Norfolk Superior Court.
Lindsay Clancy was charged with three counts of first-degree murder for allegedly strangling her children with exercise bands in their home. She then reportedly attempted suicide. Clancy survived but was left paralyzed. She pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, claiming severe postpartum depression and psychosis. The jury in her murder trial reached an 11-1 deadlocked verdict for acquittal on September 4.
It remains unclear if Lindsay Clancy will face a new trial. Her next court hearing is scheduled for November 2. She has also filed separate lawsuits against her medical providers.
Meanwhile, Patrick Clancy has moved on. He recently ran the Chicago Marathon, accompanied by his new wife, Dr. Rachel Danis, a fertility doctor. The couple, who reportedly share a passion for exercise, relocated to New York City in April 2023. They are reportedly renting out their New York apartment.
