Patrick Clancy: 'I did the best I could' in supporting ex-wife before children's deaths

Patrick Clancy stated that he believes he acted to the best of his ability in supporting his ex-wife Lindsay's mental health struggles prior to her killing their three children in January 2023. In a forthcoming interview with '60 Minutes,' Clancy, 38, shared that he experiences heartbreak over his children's deaths daily.

When asked by CBS correspondent Ross Douthat if he felt he could have prevented the tragedy, Clancy responded, "I think I did the best I could with what I had at the time. I live with the outcome. I live with it every day."

Lindsay Clancy admitted to strangling their children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and eight-month-old Callan, in their Massachusetts home. She pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Her trial concluded earlier this month with a mistrial due to an 11-1 jury deadlock.

Patrick Clancy, who testified during the trial, has since remarried fertility doctor Rachel Danis, 37, and relocated to New York City. Lindsay Clancy remains in a psychiatric facility.

Danis, who also participated in the '60 Minutes' interview, commented that the public's narrative surrounding the children's deaths had become distorted. She met Clancy after the children's deaths, describing their encounter as a meeting in Central Park. Danis praised Clancy as "the most selfless father and supportive partner."

In a separate promotional clip for the interview, Clancy revealed that he speaks to his deceased children, seeking solace by saying, "Help me... All the time."

During the trial, Clancy faced numerous accusations and threats from online individuals who questioned his involvement in the children's deaths. Following the mistrial, Clancy, through his lawyer, issued a statement promising repercussions for creators of false and harmful allegations. The statement asserted that Clancy and his family had endured a "relentless, escalating and destructive defamation campaign" fueled by influencers and conspiracy theorists seeking self-promotion and profit.

His attorney stated that the "insatiable media coverage" intensified scrutiny and allegations against Clancy, compounding his grief. The statement emphasized that this campaign had led to "real-life threats to his reputation, livelihood, and life." Clancy intends to stop the "injurious behavior," hold those responsible for the "blatant and baseless falsehoods" accountable, and refocus on honoring his children's memory and supporting women with perinatal mental health challenges. Law enforcement has been notified.

Prosecutors have not yet indicated whether they will retry Lindsay Clancy or offer a plea deal after the mistrial.
