Patrick Clancy, Ex-Wife Lindsay's Trial Looms, Lists NYC Apartment for Rent
Patrick Clancy and his new wife are renting out their Manhattan condo as prosecutors weigh a retrial for Lindsay Clancy, accused of murdering their three children.
Patrick Clancy and his pregnant wife, Rachel Danis, are reportedly renting out their one-bedroom apartment in East Midtown, Manhattan, for $6,550 per month. The listing for the 700-square-foot furnished condo, which includes a dishwasher and in-unit laundry, became available on December 11. It is unclear where Clancy and Danis plan to move.
This development comes as prosecutors in Massachusetts consider whether to retry Clancy's ex-wife, Lindsay Clancy, for the January 2023 murder of their three children: Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and Callan, 8 months old. A previous trial for the former labor and delivery nurse ended in an 11-1 jury deadlock, resulting in a mistrial.
Lindsay Clancy was charged with three counts of first-degree murder after allegedly strangling the children with exercise bands in their Duxbury home. She then reportedly attempted suicide, cutting her wrists and jumping from a second-floor window, which left her paralyzed from the waist down. She has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, citing severe postpartum depression and psychosis.
During the trial, Patrick Clancy testified that his ex-wife had been experiencing intrusive thoughts about harming their children and was taking various prescription medications. He stated he did not believe the children were in danger, as she had not expressed intent to act on these thoughts. Clancy recounted returning home to find a bloody crime scene and his wife on the ground, after which she told him she had tried to take her own life. He testified that first responders discovered the children in the basement with exercise bands around their necks.
Despite the circumstances, Clancy has described his ex-wife as a dedicated mother and attributed her actions to mental illness. He later moved to New York City in the spring of 2023 to grieve privately and met Danis a year later. They married in April.
Lindsay Clancy's attorney, Kevin Reddington, has argued that there is insufficient evidence to charge his client, questioning the investigation and asserting that she was demonized. He claimed there was no blood on her socks after her suicide attempt and that she had no memory of the events upon waking from a coma. Reddington argued the state failed to prove probable cause that she was the perpetrator and also lacked evidence to prove criminal responsibility, which requires demonstrating both a mental defect or disease and the inability to control actions.
Prosecutor Shanan Buckingham dismissed Reddington's arguments as "laughable," noting it was the first time the defense had made such claims. Buckingham also contended that a defendant with a mental illness can still be held criminally responsible for their actions.
