Patrick Clancy and New Wife Announce Plans to Start a Family Following Mistrial

Patrick Clancy and his new wife, Dr. Rachel Danis, have announced they are beginning a family together, marking a new chapter approximately three-and-a-half years after the tragic events that led to the deaths of Clancy's three children.

In their first interview since the controversial mistrial in his ex-wife Lindsay Clancy's case, the couple spoke with 60 Minutes about their future. While they did not confirm if they are currently expecting, Dr. Danis affirmed their plans to start a family when asked by correspondent Ross Douthat.

Patrick Clancy stated his intention to speak with his future children about their late siblings, Cora, Dawson, and Callan. "I think every parent can agree, you have different relationships with your kids, but they're all your kids," he said. "And I can't wait to tell them about their brothers and sister."

The couple married in April in New York City. They met in January 2024 at a running club in Central Park. Dr. Danis learned about the circumstances of Patrick Clancy's previous marriage and the loss of his children shortly after they began dating.

Lindsay Clancy was charged with three counts of first-degree murder for strangling their children, aged five, three, and eight months, in their Duxbury, Massachusetts, home on January 24, 2023. She then attempted to end her own life. Clancy did not dispute killing her children but pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, asserting she was experiencing severe postpartum depression and psychosis at the time.

The six-week trial brought national attention to postpartum mental illness and criminal responsibility. After seven days of deliberation, a mistrial was declared when the jury could not reach a unanimous verdict. Reports indicated a single juror's dissent prevented a finding of not guilty by reason of insanity, leading to accusations of reasonable doubt being misapplied.

Patrick Clancy testified during the trial, detailing his then-wife's declining mental health and the day he discovered his children deceased. He described returning home to find his wife injured and the house eerily quiet, before discovering the children in the basement. A recording of his harrowing 911 call, in which his screams were heard after finding the children, was played for the court.

Despite the circumstances, Patrick Clancy offered support for his ex-wife, testifying to her dedication as a mother prior to her mental health crisis. He stated that her mental health had deteriorated significantly in the months leading up to the killings, and she had sought increasing psychiatric help. He stated that he had not seen Lindsay Clancy since the children's deaths until he took the stand at her trial.

Following the killings, Patrick Clancy moved to New York City, sold the family home, and filed for divorce. He remarried Dr. Rachel Danis, a fertility specialist, in an intimate ceremony in April overlooking Central Park.
