Pat Sajak Makes Rare Appearance Two Years After 'Wheel of Fortune' Retirement
The former game show host attended a Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony for the band Air Supply.
Pat Sajak, two years after concluding his tenure as host of "Wheel of Fortune," made a notable public appearance at the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony honoring the musicians of Air Supply. Sajak, 79, spoke at the event on Thursday, celebrating the longevity and continued success of band members Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock.
"I do know a little bit about longevity," Sajak remarked during his speech. "As was pointed out, I did my little show for over 40 years, and I understand the challenge of trying not to wear out your welcome."
He described Russell and Hitchcock, whom he referred to as “good friends” of himself and his wife, Lesly Brown, as artists who have been performing for over five decades. Sajak praised their enduring ability to entertain audiences worldwide. "They continue to entertain their fans and be welcomed by sold-out crowds all around the world," he stated.
Sajak continued to commend the duo's consistent performance quality. "And it’s because they still do it at such a very high level," the former television host said. "They never phone in their performance. They never try to live off their reputation. They go all out each and every time they step on the stage, and they never disappoint."
Adding a touch of humor, Sajak joked about a planned tattoo in honor of Hitchcock. "I’ll pause a moment while you poke out your mind’s eye," he quipped after humorously detailing a change of plans regarding the tribute.
Concluding his remarks, Sajak expressed his appreciation for their relationship. "It’s been a privilege to share so many wonderful moments with you, and I look forward to many, many more."
Sajak stepped down from "Wheel of Fortune" after hosting his final episode on June 7, 2024. During his farewell broadcast, he reflected on his more than 40-year career with the show, emphasizing its role as a "safe place for family fun" free from social issues or politics. Ryan Seacrest took over as the new host for the show's 42nd season in September 2024.
Despite his departure from daily hosting duties, Sajak remains involved with the program as a consultant for the next three years. His daughter, Maggie Sajak, continues her role as the show's social media correspondent, while Vanna White remains as the letter-turner, a position she has held since 1982.
