Pat McAfee to Host Alternate Super Bowl Broadcast

Pat McAfee is expanding his popular alternate football broadcast, "Field Pass," to include NFL games, with a special presentation planned for Super Bowl 2027. The announcement was made Friday on "The Pat McAfee Show."

The "Field Pass" broadcast will be featured during Super Bowl 2027 on Feb. 14 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Additionally, the format will cover select "Monday Night Football" games during the upcoming season, beginning with the Commanders' matchup against the 49ers on Oct. 19.

"There was a little bit of a pipe dream that maybe if we have a little bit of success with this field pass with college, maybe with the relationship that ESPN has with the NFL that we could do some field passes for NFL games, 'Monday Night Football' games," McAfee stated.

Former quarterback Dan Orlovsky will join McAfee and his crew for the NFL broadcasts. Ex-linebacker A.J. Hawk, a regular on the college football version, will continue his participation in that format.

The "Field Pass" presentation places commentators near the field, allowing for live reactions, analysis, and commentary directly from the sidelines, deviating from the traditional broadcast booth setup.

McAfee's "Field Pass" made its debut during the 2024-25 College Football Playoff semifinals. The broadcast of the Rose Bowl between Indiana and Alabama earlier this year averaged 2.4 million viewers.

Super Bowl 2027 will mark ESPN's first time producing the NFL championship game as a rights partner. The primary broadcast will be available on ESPN and ABC, with Joe Buck and Troy Aikman expected to call the game. ESPN also plans to air a separate "ManningCast" featuring Peyton and Eli Manning. McAfee, a former NFL punter, also contributes to ESPN's "College GameDay" and "Monday Night Countdown."
