Pastor John-Paul Miller Seeks New Venue Amid Protests Over Wife's Death
Disgraced pastor John-Paul Miller attempted to hold a service in a South Carolina fried chicken shop to evade protesters angered by the death of his wife, Mica.
Pastor John-Paul Miller of Mercy Church in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, attempted to conduct services in a fried chicken shop to escape ongoing protests related to the death of his wife, Mica.
Protesters have been demonstrating against Miller for months, voicing outrage over the circumstances of Mica Miller's death. She was found dead in 2024 at the age of 30. The couple's story has been featured in a Netflix documentary, which detailed how Mica Miller died by suicide days after serving her husband divorce papers. She was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Lumbee River State Park in North Carolina after calling 911 to reveal her location to family.
Mercy Church has been a target for demonstrators, with protesters seen shouting at Miller from a distance. In an effort to evade the demonstrations, Miller and his congregation relocated their Sunday service to a Southern Chicken restaurant in Surfside Beach, approximately five miles from their usual location in Myrtle Beach.
However, the move proved to be another source of embarrassment, as the group was reportedly asked to leave the fried chicken shop. Miller and his new wife, Suzie Skinner, 51, were seen exiting the premises. The couple married on the sands of Myrtle Beach on June 1, 2025, less than a year after Mica's death. They faced accusations of an affair while Mica was still alive.
Miller is now leading services for approximately 50 people at Mercy Church, which is situated in a former nail salon in a rundown strip mall. The church is located between a dog groomer and a Colombian barbershop. The congregation sparsely fills the small space during services.
