A passenger died after jumping from the Carnival Panorama cruise ship into the Pacific Ocean, the cruise line confirmed. The unidentified man went overboard off the coast of Baja California on Saturday morning as the ship was en route back to Long Beach, California, from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Carnival stated that the ship's crew initiated search and investigation procedures upon being notified of a missing guest, which included reviewing security camera footage and alerting both the U.S. and Mexican Coast Guards. Passengers reported that a relative of the man asked cruise staff to page him when he could not be found. Announcements about the missing passenger were made, and the ship eventually turned around.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., passengers were instructed to return to their rooms for a shipwide search. Despite a room-by-room check and ID scans, the man was not located. By 5 p.m., analysis of onboard camera footage confirmed the passenger had jumped. With no sign of the individual in the water, the Carnival Panorama resumed its voyage.

Passengers were released from their rooms shortly after, and search efforts were left to local authorities. The U.S. Coast Guard conducted aerial searches of the area, and the Mexican Navy and nearby commercial vessels also participated in the search. The man has not been found.

Carnival confirmed that the man's traveling family was notified and offered support. The Carnival Panorama had departed Long Beach on September 13 for a weeklong voyage along the Mexican coast and was scheduled to arrive back on Sunday morning.
