Parents of Slain Hostage Welcome Miracle Baby Born From Frozen Egg

Nira and Yigal Sarusi, parents of Almog Sarusi, who was abducted by Hamas on Oct. 7 and killed 11 months later while in captivity, have welcomed a baby boy named Lavi. The birth, which occurred on Yom Kippur, is seen by the family as a profound miracle and a testament to life's persistence.

Little Lavi was conceived using eggs that Nira Sarusi had frozen 25 years ago. The family pursued surrogacy after the tragic loss of their son, who was 27 when he was killed. Almog Sarusi was taken from the Nova music festival during the Oct. 7 attacks. His parents learned of his death in August 2024, when Hamas announced that Almog and five other hostages had been executed.

"It’s a true miracle," Yigal Sarusi, 60, told The Post. "As life was cruelly stolen, new life can miraculously emerge – a testament that evil will not win." He added, "It’s all from God."

Despite the immense grief, the Sarusi family found solace and hope in the new arrival. "We’re insisting life goes on," Yigal stated. "It’s pure joy that we have a new son. The heart is getting full."

The parents noted that their newborn son bears a resemblance to Almog. They hope Lavi will embody the values of his late brother, whom they described as "brave, strong, optimistic." Almog Sarusi was known for his kindness, his love for his guitar and his white Jeep, and his volunteer work tutoring children and assisting the needy.

"We teach his values – we are all Almog now," Yigal said. "This is the boy who carries strength and courage. We still have the pain and that pain will never end. It doesn’t erase the pain. Nothing can."

He concluded, "We cry, but we have the joy now. It’s the two things together."
