The parents of Rhoam Summer, a five-year-old boy killed in a shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, have hired three law firms to investigate the circumstances of his death. The firms, Dwyer Williams & Cherkoss, Simon Greenstone & Panatier, and Worthington & Caron, stated their primary objectives are to "discover the truth, determine accountability, and pursue justice" for Rhoam's parents, Kelik and Lillian Summer.

Griffin John II, a 16-year-old former student, killed Rhoam Summer, two other students, and a teacher on Thursday. He also injured Saylor Graham, seven, who is in a wheelchair, and another teacher. It has since been revealed that an additional uninjured student and two other teachers were present in the special needs classroom at the time of the shooting, according to Scott Maben, a school district spokesperson. The age of the fifth child remains unclear.

The legal team plans to investigate whether the shooting was foreseeable and preventable. Their inquiry will examine the school's active shooter and security protocols, as well as how the shooter obtained his weapon. Co-Counsel Tim Williams described the event as "senseless, barbaric, and depraved."

Summer's family remembered him as a strong, kind child who loved to dance and had an interest in rainbows, unicorns, and dinosaurs. He had been planning to dress as a bunny for Halloween.

Saylor Graham, seven, was shot in the face by John. She is currently in the hospital. Graham and Summer were amongst the five students and four teachers in the room that day

Police reported that John approached the school on foot and threw his Maverick 88 shotgun over a fence before attempting to enter. After being blocked from the front entrance, he moved to the back and forced his way through a "safety vestibule." Authorities are still investigating how John acquired his ammunition.

Kaylub Giamanco, a father with a concealed carry permit, intervened after spotting John entering the school while driving home on his lunch break. Giamanco entered the school and fatally shot John, an action that has led to him being hailed as a hero by locals.
