The parents of Skye Nicholls, 23, have spoken out about the devastating impact of her death by suicide in June 2023, stating their lives have been "plunged into limbo." Nicholls was found dead at her home in Lindford, Hampshire, after experiencing abuse from her then-partner, James Edwards, 26.

According to court proceedings, Edwards subjected Nicholls to verbal abuse, threatened her with physical violence, used insults, and at times told her to end her own life. He was charged with two counts of engaging in controlling or coercive behavior and pleaded guilty on September 1, 2025. Edwards was initially sentenced to two years and three months in prison on November 7, 2025, but this was reduced to 21 months following an appeal.

Nicholls' father, Andrew, described the profound grief and the irreparable hole left in his family. "There is no stronger relationship than the one between a father and a daughter. Sadly my dad and daughter bond was cut short on June 9, 2023," he said. He explained the difficulty of returning to work and having to explain his daughter's death, noting that "the light that lit up those Christmases and birthdays was turned off on that horrific day."

Skye Nicholls' mother, Ashlie, echoed these sentiments, stating, "The death of my daughter Skye has had a devastating impact on mine and my family's lives. I feel as though the world stopped and I was plunged into limbo on June 9, 2023 when she was found after taking her own life." She fondly remembered her daughter as a "bright, vivacious, kind and caring young woman" and mourned the loss of the adult mother-daughter relationship they were developing. She also expressed fear for her son's mental health due to the trauma of finding his sister.
