A mother and father have been charged in connection with the death of their one-year-old son from severe malnutrition, and the neglect of a second child. Maero Johnson was taken to a hospital but died on August 23, 2023. A postmortem confirmed the cause of death as ketonic hypoglycaemia and severe malnutrition.
Merseyside Police officers discovered a second child in the home who was found to be underdeveloped and neglected. Adam Johnson, 26, and Kylie Smith, 25, both residents of St. Helens, have been charged with causing or allowing the death of a child and possession of cannabis.
The couple is scheduled to appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court on August 13.
