Paramount+, a significant competitor to Netflix, has acquired the rights to "Cookie Queens," a documentary featuring Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as executive producers. The film centers on young Girl Scouts competing to sell the most cookies.
This acquisition comes as the couple's five-year deal with Netflix, reportedly worth around $100 million, concluded in 2025. Following the end of that agreement, the Sussexes announced a new "multi-year, first-look deal" with Netflix, which grants the streaming service priority on projects from their production company, Archewell. This move aimed to counter speculation about a complete separation from Netflix.
"Cookie Queens" premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January. Meghan, a former Girl Scout herself, stated her interest in the project was sparked by early footage. Despite this, the documentary reportedly underperformed at the U.S. box office during its opening weekend, being surpassed in viewership by a compilation of cat videos.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's presence at a film premiere in Jamaica in 2024, celebrating reggae legend Bob Marley, had previously drawn attention. Their attendance occurred while the Jamaican prime minister, Andrew Holness, was advocating for the country to remove King Charles as head of state. The couple were reportedly guests of Paramount Pictures CEO Brian Robbins, who is also the head of Paramount+.
In other celebrity news, Mercury Prize-winning singer Benjamin Clementine, 37, is reportedly dating Hollywood actress Lana Parrilla, 49. Parrilla is known for her role in the U.S. fantasy series "Once Upon A Time." The couple made their red-carpet debut at the premiere of "The Gentlemen," a Netflix series in which Clementine appears as a former soldier. A source close to the couple confirmed their relationship began earlier this year, adding that Clementine is serious about Parrilla and has introduced her to his children.
Maya Jama, host of "Love Island," expressed her hope for a new career in gangster roles following her debut in Guy Ritchie's Netflix series "The Gentlemen." Jama, 31, plays Aisha, a criminal associate in the show. She recently separated from Manchester City footballer Ruben Dias. At the series premiere party, Jama was seen engaging with a punch bag, an activity offered to guests alongside appearances from co-stars.
