Countryfile presenter and Paralympian Sammi Kinghorn has welcomed her first child with husband Callum Aitken. The couple announced on Instagram that their daughter, Delilah, was born on July 7.
Kinghorn, 30, shared photos of the newborn, including one of her cradling Delilah in a hospital bed and another of Aitken carrying their daughter in a car seat. "Callum and I welcomed our gorgeous little girl into the world on the 7th July," Kinghorn captioned the post. "We’re both absolutely besotted with her and can’t imagine a time when she wasn’t here!"
Fans offered congratulations in the comments, with one writing, "Congratulations Sammi! Welcome to the world Delilah!"
The couple announced they were expecting their first child in March. At the time, Kinghorn shared a video that showed her wearing a "Mum" hat and Aitken wearing a "Dad" hat, with a sonogram and baby socks visible.
Kinghorn, who was paralyzed from the waist down at age 14 after an accident on her family's farm in the Scottish Borders, has become a world champion wheelchair racer and a double Paralympic medalist. She holds a 100m record at the World Para Athletics Championships and received an MBE for services to disability sport. She also holds a presenting role on BBC's Countryfile.
Reflecting on her pregnancy before giving birth, Kinghorn described it as "beautiful." She noted the unique experience of witnessing her body change and perform a "normal" function, particularly after her spinal cord injury. She shared photos documenting her pregnancy progression over several months.
In 2010, Kinghorn was injured when she was crushed by a forklift while helping to clear snow. She later revealed the details of the accident to her parents, having initially told them she had tripped. After a six-month hospital stay, she began participating in wheelchair racing and achieved significant success, including qualifying for the Rio Paralympics in 2016.
