Panthers Lineman Taylor Moton Returns to Practice After Life-Threatening Health Scare

Carolina Panthers offensive lineman Taylor Moton has returned to practice, nearly five months after experiencing a life-threatening medical emergency involving blood clots in his lung. Moton described the incident that began in July, when he was placed on the non-football injury list.

"I was just hanging out about to take a nap, lay down, and all of a sudden it started to feel like my chest was really congested," Moton told reporters. "I thought it was just normal chest congestion. But I started to taste blood in my mouth and then I knew something was up."

Moton reported coughing up a significant amount of blood and feeling an unusual sensation in his chest, prompting him to seek hospital care. Medical examinations revealed a "multitude of clots in my right lung."

Doctors placed Moton on blood thinners, a treatment that necessitated avoiding physical contact due to the risk of brain bleeds. While the exact cause of the clots remains unknown to doctors, Moton has been working to regain his football conditioning. He has 21 days to prepare before a decision on his season's availability must be made.

The 29-year-old lineman, a key figure on the Panthers' offensive line, acknowledged the gravity of his situation. "When you see the blood, you start thinking the worst," Moton said. "But thank God I'm still on this side of Earth... it makes you count your blessings to be here. Still get to see my family. It's a blessing."

His experience has instilled a greater sense of gratitude for life, he added.

Moton's return provides a boost to the Panthers, who have faced injuries on their offensive line.
