Palmer Luckey Buys Jared Leto's Former Hollywood Hills Compound

Tech billionaire Palmer Luckey has purchased Jared Leto's former Hollywood Hills property, a sprawling estate that once served as a World War II Air Force compound. Leto sold the 14,649-square-foot property in May for $12 million. Property records indicate the buyer is 8935 Lookout Mountain LLC, an entity managed by Fiendlord's Keep Inc., a company founded by Luckey in 2016 and of which he is the sole member and director.

Luckey, 34, is best known as the founder of Oculus VR, the company behind the Oculus Rift virtual-reality headset, which he sold to Facebook (now Meta) for approximately $2 billion in 2014. He later founded Anduril Industries, a defense technology company specializing in autonomous drones and military technology.

The Hollywood Hills property has a unique history. Originally built in the early 1940s as an air defense center, it later became the classified Lookout Mountain Air Force Station. From 1947 to 1969, the facility operated as a secret military film studio, producing and processing thousands of films, including footage of nuclear weapons tests. The Air Force decommissioned the station in 1969, and the property was eventually converted into a private residence.

Leto, 54, purchased the compound in 2015 for $5 million and spent years restoring it. The sale follows recent scrutiny of Leto, with multiple women coming forward with allegations of sexual misconduct in a 2026 BBC documentary. Leto has denied these claims.

Luckey's acquisition of the former Air Force compound aligns with his known interest in military history and defense. He has previously revealed his ownership of decommissioned underground missile silos across the country, with plans for a future museum project. His political affiliations have also been public; he has supported Donald Trump's presidential campaigns and his sister, Ginger Luckey, is married to former Republican Representative Matt Gaetz.
