The airport in West Palm Beach, Florida, officially changed its name on Thursday to the President Donald J. Trump International Airport, with signage updates underway.
Signs for the Palm Beach International Airport have been removed as new ones are installed. Airport officials stated that a combination of classic and new brand elements will be visible throughout the terminal in the coming weeks as the transformation continues.
The Trump family frequently uses the West Palm Beach airport when visiting President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in nearby Palm Beach. Earlier this year, a road leading from the airport to Trump’s estate was renamed Donald J. Trump Boulevard.
Eric Trump, son of the former president, posted on X that the renaming was a fitting honor, stating, “There is no person who has done more for Florida and our country, and no one more deserving of this incredible honor.” He added, “As a son, and someone who flies out of this airport nearly every day, I will forever be proud to see the initials ‘DJT’ on my boarding pass.”
While the name change took effect Thursday, the airport’s three-letter code is scheduled to change from PBI to DJT on August 18.
The legislation enabling the name change was signed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis earlier this year. The rebranding effort is anticipated to cost up to $5.5 million for new signs and other updates.
One traveler, Keegan Collett, departing the airport Thursday morning, expressed surprise at the new name. Collett stated that while he does not believe Trump deserves the honor, he is not significantly bothered by the change, viewing it as a distraction from larger issues.
In a separate event on Thursday morning, the I-40 Bridge in East Tennessee was renamed the Donald J. Trump Bridge in Dandridge, Tennessee. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, U.S. Senators Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty, and Representative Tim Burchett attended the ceremony. Bessent remarked that Trump is highly deserving of the bridge renaming honor.
Trump secured 82% of the vote in Jefferson County, where Dandridge is located, during the 2024 general election.
