Marshall Strachan and Kieran Lindsay, both 21, have been convicted of the murder of John Taylor, 44, in Kilwinning, North Ayrshire. The stabbing was described by prosecutors as "brutal" and "pre-meditated."
During the closing arguments, the prosecutor highlighted the defendants' actions after the attack. Strachan and Lindsay reportedly walked away from the scene and later burned potential evidence, actions the prosecution argued indicated a plan rather than a panicked response. "Is that the actions of panicked people dealing with an unexpected situation or was it a plan?" the prosecutor asked the jury.
Prosecutors stated that a third individual, O'Connor, was initially unaware of the stabbing but later learned of the incident through his brother. O'Connor subsequently sold the Volkswagen Polo used in the incident to a friend for £40, and the vehicle was later listed on Facebook Marketplace. Call records indicated that the driver had searched for the opening times of a local police office and had attempted to dial the non-emergency police number. O'Connor was arrested and charged with murder, but the charge was later dropped, and he provided evidence that assisted the Crown in the trial of Lindsay and Strachan.
Taylor was attacked on his doorstep in 2024.
