Paddy McNally, a businessman known for revolutionizing Formula 1 corporate entertainment and for his past relationship with Sarah Ferguson, has died at the age of 88. His death follows a long illness, and occurred two months after the passing of his son, Sean.

McNally, who was 22 years older than Ferguson, met her after she was enlisted to care for his sons, Sean and Rollo, following the death of his first wife, Anne, in 1980. Their three-year affair concluded in 1985. The following year, Ferguson became engaged to Prince Andrew.

McNally amassed a fortune through his work with Bernie Ecclestone, establishing the Formula One Paddock Club. His wealth enabled him to indulge in various ventures, which were reportedly a source of delight for Ferguson.

Sources indicate that Ferguson may find his loss profound, though she has not made a public comment at this time. A friend suggested that in private, she might reflect on what could have been had McNally proposed marriage to her.

McNally’s life included residences in Gravesend, Verbier, Wiltshire, St Tropez, and Scotland. He owned three chalets in Verbier, one of which was known as ‘Cocaine Castle.’
