Packers Wide Receiver Jayden Reed Out for Season With Neck Injury
Reed will undergo season-ending surgery following a scary injury sustained during the game against the Jets.
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a neck injury during the team's Week 2 victory over the New York Jets. Head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed Wednesday that Reed requires season-ending surgery.
"It will be a season-ending [injury]," LaFleur stated. "He’ll be out, unfortunately. He let me know yesterday that he’s going to have to have surgery as well."
LaFleur indicated that while the injury and subsequent procedure are not believed to be career-threatening, Reed will be sidelined for a significant period. The injury occurred early in the game against the Jets, specifically on the second play. Reed was attended to by medical staff, placed on a backboard, and then carted off the field before being transported to a New Jersey hospital. He remained overnight before returning to Green Bay.
Reed himself acknowledged the situation on Instagram, posting, "God will use the unusual to do the unexpected…11 out."
"Anytime you go through a situation like that, it’s a pretty scary deal," LaFleur commented on the incident. "It’s a guy you have a lot of love for and brings so much to this organization and this football team, to the locker room. He’s an energy guy. And he will certainly be missed."
Reed, who signed a three-year, $50.25 million contract extension with the Packers in April, was originally selected by the team in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He was chosen 50th overall out of Michigan State.
