Packers Hold Off Cowboys in Penalty-Plagued Contest
Jordan Love accounted for two touchdowns as Green Bay secured a chaotic victory over Dallas.
The Green Bay Packers secured a 23-13 victory over the Dallas Cowboys in a game marred by 22 penalties, 11 for each team. Jordan Love threw for a touchdown and scored on a 1-yard keeper to lead the Packers, who improved to 4-2 on the season.
Love completed 23 of 41 passes for 276 yards. His 9-yard touchdown pass to Matthew Golden opened the scoring on Green Bay's first possession. The Packers also benefited from two interceptions of Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
Prescott finished 34 of 54 for 258 yards, with one touchdown pass to Ryan Flournoy late in the game. He was intercepted by Evan Williams and rookie Brandon Cisse. The Cowboys’ offense struggled throughout the game, trailing 17-0 at halftime, the first time they had been shut out in the first half since November 2021.
Green Bay's defense was able to contain Dallas' offense, particularly in critical moments. Despite some dropped potential touchdown passes by Packers receivers, including two by Golden and one by Christian Watson, Green Bay managed to convert those drives into field goals from Trey Smack.
The game was marked by significant penalty yardage, with Dallas accumulating 108 yards and Green Bay 96. Penalties disrupted several promising drives for both teams.
A defensive highlight for Dallas was Dee Winters' interception in the first quarter, which he returned near the end zone. However, the play was negated by a penalty on Golden, who was flagged for touching Winters while he was on the ground.
Injuries sustained during the game included Cowboys wide receiver KaVontae Turpin (ribs) and Winters (ankle). For the Packers, cornerback Brandon Cisse left with a stinger.
The Packers are set to welcome back running back Josh Jacobs, who will come off the commissioner’s exempt list on Monday. He has not played this season.
Looking ahead, the Cowboys will travel to face Philadelphia on Oct. 26, while the Packers will play at Detroit next Sunday.
