A significant portion of Oxford Street, a renowned London shopping destination, has officially transitioned to a pedestrian-only zone. This development marks the initial phase of a comprehensive overhaul aimed at revitalizing the iconic street.

London Mayor Lord Sadiq Khan stated that this change signifies "the end of decline" for Oxford Street. He expressed optimism about the street's future, promising enhancements such as more trees, seating, and public squares.

The first phase of this extensive redevelopment is anticipated to be completed by the spring of 2027. The mayor noted that the street is now prepared for a festive lead-up to Christmas, offering a safer and more spacious environment for shoppers.
