Oxford Police Respond to Suspected Overdose, Confirm It's Unrelated to Recent Student Deaths
Authorities state the incident involving a 22-year-old and synthetic kratom is not connected to the deaths of two University of Mississippi students.
Oxford, Mississippi, police and emergency personnel responded to a suspected overdose call early Thursday morning involving a 22-year-old individual. The person was revived by EMS and is expected to recover. Police reported that synthetic kratom was found in the individual's possession.
Authorities have confirmed that this incident is not related to the recent deaths of two University of Mississippi students, Aidan Hamilton, 18, and Robert Strang, 20, who were found deceased on September 21. Synthetic kratom was also found near the students at that time. The cause of their deaths has not yet been released by officials.
Police stated that the synthetic kratom discovered during the Thursday morning incident is not believed to have been purchased locally. The investigation into the source of the substance is ongoing.
