Authorities intercepted a substantial shipment of methamphetamine, totaling over 2,000 pounds, that had been concealed within heads of cabbage at the U.S.-Mexico border. The seizure was made by the Drug Enforcement Administration's McAllen office in the Rio Grande Valley.
Video shared by the DEA's Houston division depicted boxes filled with cabbage, with agents revealing large quantities of the drug hidden inside. Additional images showed wheelbarrows filled with the concealed methamphetamine.
The operation was part of an investigation by a Homeland Security Taskforce, which included collaboration with federal border agencies and Texas law enforcement. The DEA stated that "Strong partnerships and relentless enforcement produce real results."
The methamphetamine epidemic has been a persistent issue in the United States for years, with Mexican drug cartels playing a significant role in its distribution. Long-term methamphetamine use is associated with severe health consequences, including dental decay, organ damage, and chronic mental health issues.
