Oura Postpones IPO Amid Market Uncertainty

Smart-ring maker Oura has postponed its initial public offering, citing "uncertainty in the IPO market," the company announced Tuesday. The San Francisco-based firm, known for its AI-powered rings that track health indicators, had been expected to debut on the Nasdaq and potentially achieve a valuation significantly higher than the $11 billion it secured in a recent funding round.

Oura CEO Tom Hale stated that the company aims for an "extraordinary IPO for our employees and investors" and has the flexibility to "choosing our moment." The company did not provide a new timeline for its listing.

Oura filed its IPO paperwork earlier this month, reporting strong investor demand. The decision to delay comes as broader market conditions are impacted by volatile oil prices and inflation, partly attributed to geopolitical events. This follows a period of robust activity in the IPO market, with the Securities and Exchange Commission reporting that 208 IPOs raised $137 billion in the first half of the current year, a substantial increase from the previous year.

Several other companies have recently pulled or delayed their IPO plans, including Holtec Nuclear and Bamboo Insurance. In the technology sector, AI firm Anthropic also pushed its anticipated blockbuster IPO from October to November, with potential valuations reaching $2 trillion.

Despite market headwinds, Oura has reported significant business growth. The company's revenue reached $1.21 billion for the nine months ending in June, a 74% increase year-over-year. Oura also achieved profitability during this period, with a net profit of $60.8 million, up from $1.6 million in the prior year, supported by its 5.7 million paying members. Founded in Finland in 2013, Oura has established partnerships with sports leagues and government entities, including the U.S. Defense Department.
