Oswaldo Cabrera Claimed by Reds Following Yankees Release
Utilityman finds new team just two days after being designated for assignment by New York.
Oswaldo Cabrera has been claimed off waivers by the Cincinnati Reds, his new team announced Friday, just two days after being designated for assignment by the New York Yankees.
Cabrera, 27, was released by the Yankees on Wednesday to make room on the 40-man roster for pitcher Clarke Schmidt. Yankees manager Aaron Boone described the decision as "very difficult."
Cabrera spent the latter part of the 2025 season and the beginning of the current one working his way back from a fractured ankle. This season, he was batting .288 with a .790 OPS in Triple-A.
During his tenure with the Yankees, Cabrera played in 304 major league games, recording a .232 batting average, a .292 on-base percentage, and a .635 slugging percentage, with 20 home runs and 95 RBIs.
