Senator Jon Ossoff has dismissed criticism from the Trump administration regarding a recent remark about White House aide Natalie Harp, asserting that "no one cares about their feelings." The Georgia Democrat's comments, made during an appearance on "The Last Word" on MS NOW, addressed the administration's reaction to his earlier statement at a rally.
Ossoff had stated that President Donald Trump "doesn't want to do the job. He wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie on their apparently defenseless flying palace gifted by the emir of Qatar." This quip, which emerged online, prompted outrage from MAGA pundits and Trump administration officials.
During the interview, Ossoff told host Lawrence O'Donnell that he found it "amazing to watch this White House melt down over this all week." He characterized White House staffers as "adults, public officials paid by the taxpayer, with immense power, in positions of public trust." He suggested that whether it involves Harp providing flattery, Peter Navarro steering taxpayer-funded loans to Trump family investments, or Pete Hegseth influencing decisions on the Middle East conflict, the public is not concerned with the feelings of these officials.
Ossoff's remarks were tied to footage showing Trump dictating a social media post to Harp, referencing his wealth and the ongoing conflict in Iran. The senator highlighted the human cost of the war, noting the deaths of at least 18 U.S. military service members and an extended deployment of the USS Abraham Lincoln that has reportedly led to a mental health crisis among sailors.
"The sailors on the Lincoln are fighting his war, a war based on lies, while he plays with his new ballroom, flies around on a jet given to him by a foreign prince, and retreats into this circle of sycophantic aides," Ossoff stated. He argued that this inner circle prevents Trump from hearing necessary information and accused the White House of "lying the country into war," calling the conflict an "obscenity."
Ossoff, who is seeking reelection in Georgia against GOP nominee Mike Collins, anticipates significant spending from his opponents. He concluded by reiterating his criticism of the Trump administration's Iran policy, stating that "they know not how to end or how to win."
