Orlando Named Best US City for Coffee Lovers, New York City Ranks 44th
A WalletHub study reveals Orlando, Florida, as the top coffee destination, surpassing traditional coffee hubs like New York, Portland, and Seattle.
Orlando, Florida, has been recognized as the top city for coffee lovers in the United States, according to a recent study by WalletHub. The city unseated New York City, which fell to 44th place in the rankings. Traditional coffee hubs such as Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington, also did not claim the top spot.
The WalletHub analysis evaluated 100 of the largest U.S. cities across 12 key metrics, including coffee shop affordability, online ratings, store hours, and the number of coffee and tea shops with free Wi-Fi per capita. Orlando stood out with households spending an average of over $154 annually on coffee and boasting the highest number of free-Wi-Fi coffee and tea shops per capita.
Chip Lupo, a WalletHub analyst, attributed Orlando's success partly to its tourism-driven economy. He noted that coffee shops often serve as convenient places for tourists to access Wi-Fi and recharge devices before visiting attractions like Walt Disney World. This trend also extends to remote workers and students who utilize the free Wi-Fi and affordable options.
Following Orlando, Portland secured the second position on the list. Miami, Long Beach, and Seattle rounded out the top five coffee-loving cities. Despite its lower ranking in overall coffee appreciation, New York City was noted for its generous tipping culture, with New Yorkers reportedly spending approximately $237 million annually in tips at coffee shops.
