Orlando Bloom's "Appalling" Threesome Scene Sparks Online Backlash

Actor Orlando Bloom's recent remarks about a threesome scene in his upcoming film "Bucking Fastard," co-starring sisters Rooney and Kate Mara, have ignited a strong reaction from online audiences. Following Bloom's discussion of the scene at the San Sebastián Film Festival, social media platforms saw a wave of criticism.

Many viewers expressed disgust and disapproval. "Ewww… this is appalling. What work should I definitely NOT look out for so I don’t watch this filth?" one user commented on Reddit. Another described the scene as "just weird," while a third questioned the decision of the Mara sisters to participate. "What the f–k is happening…why would the maras agree to this…," read one post.

However, the scene also found defenders among online commentators who emphasized the nature of acting. "It’s acting. They’re all adults," stated one user, a sentiment echoed by another who noted, "Its acting. You’re not supposed to be attracted to and enjoy the sex scenes. Its a job."

Bloom, 49, described the scene as "sincere," detailing the characters' "carnal desires" and "innocence" in a conversation with Variety. He plays Gareth Mulroney, a character involved with twin sisters Joan and Jean Holbrooke, portrayed by Rooney Mara and Kate Mara, respectively. Bloom characterized the threesome as a "very sincere sort of moment" collaboratively created with the sisters.

Director Werner Herzog also commented on the scene, suggesting that directors sometimes must "step back" from giving explicit instructions. He recalled telling Bloom, "You are in bed, and you have two women in your arms. How you deal with it, I cannot give instructions." Herzog described the moment as "beautiful," noting its "charm and depth."

"Bucking Fastard" premiered at the Venice International Film Festival on September 3rd. A release date for wider distribution has not yet been announced.
