Orioles Mascot Performer Among Those Laid Off in Team Restructuring
A recent report indicates that the Baltimore Orioles' cost-cutting measures have extended to key gameday personnel, including the performer of the Oriole Bird mascot.
The Baltimore Orioles have recently implemented a round of layoffs that reportedly impacted the performer of the team's mascot, the Oriole Bird, as well as other gameday and staff positions. According to a report, the cuts also affected the performer of Mr. Splash, a character who sprayed water during games, along with the team's photographer and staff in ticket sales and graphic design departments.
A spokesperson for the team confirmed to the outlet that the layoffs occurred within the organization's business department. However, the team declined to comment on specific employee matters.
Despite the layoffs of the individuals portraying the characters, the team plans to continue featuring both the Oriole Bird and Mr. Splash. According to The Baltimore Sun, the roles will be filled by existing employees within the organization. The Orioles concluded their recent season with a record of 79-83, placing them fourth in the AL East.
