Baltimore Orioles color commentator Ben McDonald disclosed during a recent broadcast that he has never used shampoo in his life, opting instead for a bar of soap to wash his hair. The revelation came during the Orioles' game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday.
Play-by-play announcer Kevin Brown asked McDonald if he used a significant amount of product in his hair, similar to Phillies batter Brandon Marsh, who had a full beard. McDonald, a former Orioles pitcher from the 1990s, responded that he has exclusively used a bar of soap. When Brown expressed surprise, McDonald confirmed that he has never used shampoo, not even once.
Brown then inquired if McDonald's preference for soap was typical, to which McDonald replied that it was simple and effective. He demonstrated the softness of his hair to Brown, stating, "It's just a bar of soap. Nice and soft. See? It's a secret. Don't tell anybody. I don't need to spend all that money on shampoo."
As the conversation concluded, Brown asked McDonald if he would use shampoo if the Orioles hit a grand slam during the game. McDonald reportedly agreed, but the team did not hit a grand slam, and the game was shortened by rain, with the Orioles losing 8-0.
