Cleveland Police have arrested three more individuals as part of a broad operation targeting organized crime, a probe that has been amplified in the wake of a head-on collision on the A66 that resulted in the deaths of two officers and five youths. The arrests were made following a separate incident where one vehicle rammed another on Derwentwater Road, near Middlesbrough, on Sunday evening.
Two men, aged 19 and 24, were detained in connection with the Derwentwater Road incident. Police stated they are being questioned on suspicion of possessing a firearm with the intent to cause fear of violence. An 18-year-old man, arrested previously for a suspected motoring offense in the same town, has been charged with dangerous driving. He appeared before Teesside Magistrates' Court on Monday and was remanded into custody.
Since the fatal crash on August 22, a total of 27 people have been arrested. The crash, which occurred on the A66, claimed the lives of the two police officers and the five young people. Flowers have been left near the A66 crash site in South Bank, near Middlesbrough. The investigation by Cleveland Police continues to focus on organized crime elements within the region.
