Oregon School Employee Found Dead After Alleged Triple Murder

An Oregon school district employee was found dead at a motel Wednesday, hours after authorities issued a warrant for his arrest in connection with a triple homicide that occurred the previous day in Happy Valley, a suburb southeast of Portland.

Edward Villa, 45, a student and community engagement specialist for the North Clackamas School District, was sought by law enforcement after three people were discovered shot to death inside a residence in Happy Valley around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police responded to a welfare check when they found the victims, whose identities have not yet been released and whose relationship to Villa is unknown.

The North Clackamas School District confirmed Villa's employment and informed parents via email that he was not at work, stating there was no threat to schools or facilities. The district later updated parents that Villa had died.

Villa had been employed by the district since 2007. A Facebook post from the previous year showed Villa displaying a collection of handguns and ammunition, captioned "family time."

US Marshals Service located Villa at a motel in Hammond, a coastal community approximately 100 miles from Happy Valley. After receiving no response from his room, authorities deployed tear gas and munitions before using a drone to discover his body.

Clackamas County Sheriff James Rhodes described the incident as a "tragic loss of three lives" and stated that a suspect was identified and located within 24 hours of the Happy Valley Police Department arriving at the scene.

Happy Valley Chief of Police Marcus Mendoza stated that further details would be released once the victims' families had been notified. He acknowledged the impact of the tragedy on the community and pledged transparency.
